Sweet Nothings

One of the sweetest things

he ever said to me was

"You look like you're dressed

to go to a funeral,"

and then he topped it a few days later

and he told me

I look like a storybook character

I remember exactly where we were

and what I was wearing

I wrote it down in my journal

and dated it

I haven't worn it since

I want to wear it

and then

bump into him

in public

so he can remember when

and then again

all I'm trying to do is forget

how I took it out of context

I saw it how I dreamt

everything I thought was a compliment

where I saw depth

was merely content
